For a refrigerator that isn't cooling check a dirty condenser coil, pull out the refrigerator and open the rear access plate at the bottom of the refrigerator to inspect the coils. It is advisable to clean the condenser coils approximately every six months in order to smooth out the refrigerator operation. If the compressor overheats due to a dirty condenser coil, it should be switched off and cause a clicking noise from the back of the refrigerator for 2-3 minutes.

There are coils in the refrigerator that cool the condensed refrigerant. If too much dust or dirt accumulates on the coils, the heat is no longer released by itself and ends up in the refrigerator. Clean the dirt with a hand-held vacuum cleaner or a special fridge brush (see below) and the problem will be solved.

To check, open the refrigerator door and touch the back of the refrigerator with your hands, where the evaporator fan blows. The capacitor fan is located in a cabinet at the bottom of the refrigerator near the compressor capacitor coil (note that some refrigerator models have a coil on the back or bottom, not the fan). You will also want to check the air flow from the refrigerator to the freezer. Click learn more.
